Scott D. Miller Awarded PA CTO of the Year in Education
Wayne Highlands School District is proud to announce that our Director of Technology, Scott D. Miller, has been awarded the 2017 Pennsylvania Chief Technology Officer of the Year Award in Education.
Recognized recently at an awards ceremony in Hershey, Pennsylvania, at the annual Pennsylvania Educational Technology Expo and Conference (PETE&C), which is a statewide event that provides quality programs focused on technology in the educational field. Each year, there is a vast audience of teachers, administrators, technology directors, school business managers, school board members and others present at the conference.
“The PAECT (Pennsylvania Association for Educational Communications and Technology) Chief Technology Officer of the Year Award went to an individual who is a pioneer and champion of the uses of technology in K12 education through Leadership, Community Building, Innovative Use of Technology, Creation of Partnerships and impact on learning,” stated Dr. Ann M. Noonen, Ph.D., Past President of PAECT.
This year’s awardee, Scott D. Miller, works as the Director of Technology, and through his leadership, the Wayne Highlands School District has seen “incredible changes” in the last three years. He rebuilt the entire district network in Honesdale High School, Wayne Highlands Middle School, Lakeside Elementary, Stourbridge Primary Center, Damascus School, and Preston School.While securing Federal e-Rate Funding to help pay for the project, which included the set-up of network redundancy, implemented one-to-one iPads in the high school and provided access to iPad carts in all other buildings. Through his leadership, student email was enabled through Google Apps for Education. The network in the district is now trusted and reliable with new Cisco Meraki switches, wireless, and Shoretel voice over internet protocol (VOIP) phone system.
Students and teachers now have access to new computers, latest operating system versions for both PC (Microsoft Windows 10) and MAC (MacOS Sierra), and software applications from Microsoft Office 2016 through Adobe Studios 2017 Suites such as Photo Shop, Illustrator, Premier and more.
Scott D. Miller, has led three school districts across the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania for nearly twenty years in Educational Technology as a School Administrator. He has dedicated his career to the opportunities available through education. In his career, he has had the opportunity to design, construct and renovate three schools for the 21st Century in Technology and Education. An outspoken and passionate supporter of the arts and technology that offers students personalized pathways to life and career success. Scott is a respected leader on the opportunities and viability of education.
Wayne Highlands School District has moved forward very quickly with the leadership of Scott D. Miller, technology director, with support of Superintendent Gregory Frigoletto, Business Manager Jeffrey Firmstone, and Wayne Highland School District Board of Directors.
With great acceptance, Scott D. Miller, will now represent the entire state of Pennsylvania in Education, as the Chief Technology Officer of the Year at the National Conference in 2018, as the candidate for the CoSN (Consortium for School Networking) Chief Technology Officer - Withrow Award in Washington, DC.
